The twentieth century produced a great movement toward monotheistic religion in Africa. This was also evident in Ghana as Christianity expanded rapidly, especially in the South of the country. By mid-century the Christian movement had taken on a definite African flavour as the “spiritual” and African indigenous churches multiplied in Ghana. It was noted that the more orthodox churches that had been started in the nineteenth century did not give recognition or provide training for these Africanized churches. These newer churches were especially lacking in effective Biblical and theological training for their leadership. As a result Ghana Christian University College was established as an open Bible School to train leadership for any church that wanted to send its leaders for training. Its purpose was to allow any person who felt God’s call to be trained for leadership in His Church to be able to achieve an excellent preparation for Christian Leadership.
At GCUC, we believe that Servant Leadership is something not only to be associated with the Church but for all of society and at every interface. Therefore, we are using our years of experience in educating young men and women to broaden the impact of the college for the good of society in the area of Community Development. As an educational participant in society, we strongly believe in our obligation to the development of the mind and spirit of students for service in their communities.
As a non-denominational institution, Ghana Christian University College is not controlled by any church or organization, nor does it control any churches or organizations. It is controlled by a self-governing Board of Directors whose purpose is to prepare ministers, evangelists, pastors, teachers, and lay leaders primarily for the many indigenous churches throughout Ghana and Africa that have no seminaries of their own. It also prepares leaders with a Christian worldview for other organizations, especially those working in development.

CORE VALUES
As a guide to faith and practice, GCUC believes that Jesus Christ is the only Son of God, that He came into the world, was crucified for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day, and that only through Him can there be forgiveness of sins and personal salvation.
GCCS believes that the Bible is God’s revealed Word, and that following its teachings is a necessary step toward a restored unity between God and man, that there is no creed except Christ, no authoritative book except the Bible, that in matters of faith, there should be unity among the followers of Christ; in matters of opinion, there should be liberty; above all things, there should be love toward all, especially toward those who are of the household of faith.
